Uma das mais importantes escritoras da actualidade em África, Zukiswa Wanner, terá o seu livro de referência, “The Madams” lançado em língua portuguesa pela editora moçambicana Ethale Publishing, em parceria com a angolana Kacimbo.

Livro que marcou o início de carreira da escritora sul-africana que foi finalista do mais importante prémio para autores jovens na África do Sul, o K.Sello Duiker Memorial, se intitula “As Madames” na tradução para a língua portuguesa feita pelo jornalista e tradutor moçambicano José Sá.

Em Maputo, o evento de lançamento do livro será no Cine-Teatro Scala, a 29 de Agosto, numa apresentação a ser feita pelo filósofo José Castiano e pela romancista Virgília Ferrão.

As Madames, levanta um novo cenário de vida para as mulheres e na relação entre as suas ocupações ou representação social em função das raças numa África do Sul pós-apartheid.

Autora, ensaísta, editora e curadora, Zukiswa Wanner nasceu em Lusaka, na Zâmbia, filha de um sul-africano exilado e de uma zimbabweana.

Em 2020, Wanner foi a primeira mulher africana a receber a Medalha Goethe, pela sua actividade e contribuição ao intercâmbio cultural internacional. No mesmo ano, foi considerada Personalidade Literária do Ano pela Brittle Paper, além de ter sido nomeada uma das 100 personalidades africanas mais influentes pela revista pan-africana New African.

Book “The Madams” by South African writer Zukiswa Wanner translated into Portuguese in Mozambique 

One of the most important writers in Africa today, Zukiswa Wanner, will have her landmark book, “The Madams“, released in Portuguese by Mozambican publisher Ethale Publishing, in partnership with Angola’s Kacimbo.

The book, which marked the beginning of the career of the South African writer who was a finalist for the most important prize for young authors in South Africa, the K.Sello Duiker Memorial, is entitled “The Madams” in the Portuguese translation by Mozambican journalist and translator José Sá.

In Maputo, the book launch event will take place at Cine-Teatro Scala on 29 August, with a presentation by philosopher José Castiano and novelist Virgília Ferrão.

The Madams raises a new scenario of life for women and the relationship between their occupations or social representation according to race in a post-apartheid South Africa.

Author, essayist, editor and curator, Zukiswa Wanner was born in Lusaka, Zambia, to an exiled South African and a Zimbabwean woman.

In 2020, Wanner was the first African woman to receive the Goethe Medal for her work and contribution to international cultural exchange. In the same year, she was named Literary Personality of the Year by the Brittle Paper, as well as being named one of the 100 most influential African personalities by the pan-African magazine New African.
