A cidade sul-africana de Joanesburgo foi recentemente classificada como “culturalmente mais vibrante de África”. O título foi atribuído pela Creative Vibrancy Index For Africa que classificou 12 cidades africanas com base na forma como apoiam e permitem as artes, a cultura e as indústrias criativas.

A cidade de Maputo, de longe a que mais exercício artístico e cultural em Moçambique apresenta, não foi incluída nessa lista onde constam, Kinshasa, Dakar, Nairobi, Tunis, Marrakech, Luanda, Accra, Cairo, Lagos, Harare e Dar-Es-Salam. O índice fornece uma visão abrangente do ambiente para artistas e empreendedores criativos nessas cidades.

As cidades foram classificadas com base na disponibilidade e acesso a espaços e equipamentos culturais; as políticas culturais de apoio às artes e a capacidade das cidades de promover a cultura. Joanesburgo tem a pontuação geral mais alta para criar o ambiente mais favorável à criatividade, seguida por Cairo e Lagos. Enquanto isso, Marrakech, Tunis e Kinshasa são as cidades menos favoráveis.

O Creative Vibrancy Index For Africa visa inspirar o crescimento do setor, destacando o cenário de apoio às artes, cultura e indústrias criativas e a capacidade dos setores para a criação de empregos, coesão da comunidade e engajamento dos jovens.

Johannesburg is considered the most culturally vibrant city in Africa. And Maputo?

 

The South African city of Johannesburg was recently ranked as “Africa’s most culturally vibrant”. The title was awarded by the Creative Vibrancy Index For Africa which ranked 12 African cities based on how they support and enable arts, culture and creative industries.

The city of Maputo, by far the most artistic and culturally active in Mozambique, was not included in the list that includes Kinshasa, Dakar, Nairobi, Tunis, Marrakech, Luanda, Accra, Cairo, Lagos, Harare and Dar Es Salaam. The index provides a comprehensive overview of the environment for artists and creative entrepreneurs in these cities.

Cities were ranked based on the availability of and access to cultural spaces and facilities; the cultural policies supporting the arts and the cities’ ability to promote culture. Johannesburg has the highest overall score for creating the most conducive environment for creativity, followed by Cairo and Lagos. Meanwhile, Marrakech, Tunis and Kinshasa are the least favourable cities.

The Creative Vibrancy Index For Africa aims to inspire growth in the sector by highlighting the supportive landscape for arts, culture and creative industries and the sectors’ capacity for job creation, community cohesion and youth engagement.

Future updates to the index will include additional cities and track changes in cities already mapped.
