O Centro de Dados e Comunicação Digital da Universidade de Joanesburgo (UJ) e o Instituto Artificial de Inteligência, em colaboração com a UJ Business School (JBS), vão acolher, este ano, a quinta edição da Google Africa Internet Academy.

O Google Africa Internet Academy é um evento anual no continente que reúne líderes empresariais e tecnológicos de toda a África para discutir as últimas tendências em política e regulamentação tecnológica e fornecer conteúdos valiosos e oportunidades para países emergentes. empreendedores e outros grupos-alvo em tecnologia e áreas afins.

As discussões deste ano incluirão o foco do Google na inteligência artificial (IA) e como a IA funciona e o que faz.

Destaca-se ainda o facto de os workshops que ocorrem esta semana, examinarem as oportunidades económicas que a IA apresenta ao continente para permitir que as gerações actuais e futuras vivam num mundo mais próspero, saudável, seguro e sustentável.

“O maior foco na inteligência artificial (IA) acelerou a necessidade de conversas entre todas as partes interessadas para analisar os benefícios da IA, bem como as barreiras políticas para mitigar os riscos”, afirmou o director nacional do Google South Africa, Alistair Mokoena.

A primeira Google Africa Internet Academy foi realizada na Wits University em 2016. A Strathmore University nas Maurícias e a US International University (USIU-Africa) acolheram o segundo e terceiro eventos em 2017 e 2021, respectivamente.

A quarta edição deste evento foi realizada no Quénia, em Maio deste ano.

Google Africa Internet Academy focuses on AI for Africa

 

The Centre for Digital Data and Communication at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) and the Artificial Intelligence Institute, in collaboration with the UJ Business School (JBS), will host this year’s fifth edition of the Google Africa Internet Academy.

The Google Africa Internet Academy is an annual event on the continent that brings together business and technology leaders from across Africa to discuss the latest trends in technology policy and regulation and provide valuable content and opportunities for emerging countries, entrepreneurs and other target groups in technology and related fields.

This year’s discussions will include Google’s focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and how AI works and what it does.

Notably, the workshops taking place this week will examine the economic opportunities that AI presents to the continent to enable current and future generations to live in a more prosperous, healthy, secure and sustainable world.

“The increased focus on artificial intelligence has accelerated the need for conversations between all stakeholders to analyse the benefits of AI, as well as the policy barriers to mitigate the risks” said Google South Africa country director Alistair Mokoena.

The first Google Africa Internet Academy was held at Wits University in 2016. Strathmore University in Mauritius and US International University (USIU-Africa) hosted the second and third events in 2017 and 2021 respectively.

The fourth edition of this event was held in Kenya in May this year.
