O título da trilogia do escritor moçambicano Mia Couto vai ao teatro em Portugal numa produção com um elenco onde actores moçambicanos se destacam. “As Areias do Imperador”, adaptado e encenado por Victor Oliveira estará em palco nos dias 8 e 9 de setembro, no Teatro Aveirense.

A obra encenada conduz para o fim do século XIX, no meio de Moçambique devastado por guerras políticas. Germano, soldado português, e Imani, a interprete moçambicana, apaixonam-se perdidamente. Uma história de amor impossível carregada por 15 intérpretes moçambicanos, portugueses e franceses que, através do destino desses dois seres, dão a ver a grande Historia.

Victor Oliveira que é também moçambicano, juntou em cena uma mistura de gerações de profissionais de teatro do país, entre eles, Ana Magaia, Elliot Alex, Eunice Mandlate, Horácio Guiamba, Josefina Massango, Lucrécia Paco, Klemente Tsamba, Sofaida Moyane, tendo Venâncio Calisto na assistência à encenação.

As criações de Victor de Oliveira estão intimamente ligadas à história colonial de Moçambique. Em “Incêndios”, espectáculo criado em 2019 em Maputo, o encenador interrogava os ecos da guerra civil que devastou o país durante 16 anos e, em “Limbo” (espetáculo criado em Lisboa em 2021 e que recebeu os prémios de Melhor espetáculo e Melhor texto 2022 da Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores), ele interessava-se às questões sobre os efeitos da colonização, da assimilação e da mestiçagem.

Através da adaptação da trilogia do autor moçambicano Mia Couto, Victor Oliveira prossegue esse caminho em torno das relações Norte/Sul.

Mia Couto’s ” Sands of the Emperor” taken to the stage in Portugal with Mozambican actors 

 

The title of the trilogy by Mozambican writer Mia Couto is going to the theatre in Portugal in a production with a cast featuring Mozambican actors. ” Sands of the Emperor“, adapted and directed by Victor Oliveira, will be on stage, September 8th and 9th at the Aveirense Theatre.

The play takes us to the end of the 19th century, in the middle of Mozambique ravaged by political wars. Germano, a Portuguese soldier, and Imani, a Mozambican interpreter, fall madly in love. A story of impossible love performed by 15 Mozambican, Portuguese and French interpreters who, through the fate of these two beings, show the great History.

Victor Oliveira, who is also Mozambican, has brought together a mix of generations of the country’s theatre professionals, including Ana Magaia, Elliot Alex, Eunice Mandlate, Horácio Guiamba, Josefina Massango, Lucrécia Paco, Klemente Tsamba, Sofaida Moyane, with Venâncio Calisto assisting stage direction.

Victor de Oliveira’s creations are closely linked to Mozambique’s colonial history. In “Incêndios“, a show created in Maputo in 2019, the director interrogated the echoes of the civil war that devastated the country for 16 years and, in “Limbo” (a show created in Lisbon in 2021 and which won the Best Show and Best Text 2022 awards from the Portuguese Society of Authors), he was interested in questions about the effects of colonisation, assimilation and interbreeding.

Through his adaptation of the trilogy by Mozambican author Mia Couto, Victor Oliveira continues along this path of North/South relations.
