The 5th edition of the Maputo Fast Forward /MFF festival had the theme “The Human Factor & The Future of Life on the Planet: from Climate Change to Artificial Intelligence”.

The pandemic made it possible, in an unexpected way, to increase visibility to two tectonic movements of great amplitude that had already been shaping over the last few decades, making clear the epic dimension of the challenges facing Humanity. 

The first has to do with the consequences of the climate change process underway. Decades of inaction have left humanity with no other alternatives.

The second has to do with the emergence of the so-called 4th Industrial Revolution. In the 19th century marked the beginning of the industrial era when the current revolution has at its epicentre the transfer of human cognitive and emotional capacities to machines whose processing capacity far exceeds that of the human brain and proposes to materialise algorithmic forms of intelligence.

It is legitimate to think that the configuration of the “human condition” will be, forever, other and different, because the changes will have an unprecedented impact on the planetary, social and individual “body”.
